One of the worst problems from having geese on your property is the amount of waste they produce. Each adult goose defecates about every 20 minutes. That translates into up to one and a half pounds per day of feces. Any areas with large numbers of geese will be negatively affected by this. Most of the time they gravitate to places with water sources like lakes, water and land can be contaminated by all of the waste left by the geese. Many pathogens can be found in the excrement and are absorbed into the land and water over time. E Coli, Salmonella and other parasites can be harmful to humans. This can be a huge problem especially if the geese are present year round.

Damage to Property

Geese consume and destroy vegetation. Grass and sod in sports fields can be trampled. Crops are at risk as well. Corn, soybeans, rye and wheat are just a few of the crops geese will consume. Even vegetable gardens are vulnerable. Geese will eat brand new grass right down to the dirt.

Dangerous Behavior

Many times, geese can settle in very public locations. Parks, golf courses and other public places can become dangerous as nesting geese can feel threatened by humans . They will become aggressive to protect their young. They are not afraid to attack if they feel it is necessary. Behaviors like flapping wings, making noise and lowering their heads can indicate aggressive behavior. Which can be quite scary for passers by.

Flight Hazzards

It is extremely dangerous for geese to be near airports. Geese are large birds that can potentially cause damage to planes. Especially during take off and landing and even up to thirty thousand feet. For the safety of travelers, the goal for all airports is to make the airport and the surrounding area unattractive to geese. Keeping them away from the nearby land is the best way to keep everyone safe on planes.
